… after reading my recent post…..that I am going to concentrate on being grateful for all the things I Can Do….and stop beating myself up for the things I can’t do!!
And what we can all do is to Get Up. Dress Up. Show Up …and make some History! And fingers crossed, it will be all good!
So, are you with me…?! 🙂
Please comment & share your thoughts!
To say Yes! You hear me say that all the time!
I had lunch yesterday with some great friends of mine. We all got dressed up, just because we were seeing each other! It was such fun! The conversation was about everything under the sun…Spring Fashion, Make Up we like, what we are doing & where we are going….it was so interesting! One of the ladies commented that she got herself into a difficult situation recently when she said Yes to something “that wasn’t as easy easy as it sounds”! Her story reminded me of a trip Harry and I took recently. We found ourselves in a few situations that were really challenging! It was very scary…and I’m happy to report it all turned out OK!
I found myself telling the story of how my very traumatic foot surgery (many years ago now) had a major impact on what kinds of things I Can Do, and what I really Can’t Do…like play figure skate & play tennis. When I had my operation I gave up tennis & ice skating, which meant that I had more time available to try other things (like become a Doncaster Stylist!). I have to remind myself to say Yes to things that I Can Do…and sometimes that means a little bit of experimenting about what the things I Can Do might be. As we age, gracefully I hope, that seems to be happening more and more. The list of things I Can Do is shrinking while the list of things I Used To Do seems to be growing!
I’m not as good as I once was, but I’m as good once as I ever was! Toby Keith
So one of the things I Can Do … is Get Dressed! (Phew!) Maybe that is one reason why I like to try different looks…to be adventurous (sort of, anyway) with what I wear…to try new things. And I guess it is also why I encourage You to try new things too! I do have more confidence to try something new to me when I am Dressed Up. When I get Dressed Up, I feel like I am preparing for my day. I make the bed, get myself together, think about what I’m doing, where I’m going….and therefore what I will wear to do all that in. It sounds like it should be pretty simple…but sometimes it just isn’t as easy as it sounds. I think most of you understand that….because I know you know what I’m talking about!
Get Up. Dress Up. Show Up…and the rest will be history in the making.
This is so profound, because for a lot of people that just isn’t as easy as it sounds. All of us can identify with that on at least some days.
So, as we move forward, let’s try to get in the habit of saying “Yes, Thank you, I would love to join you”. While at the same time we will be thoughtful about what kinds of things we agree to. We won’t be a scaredy cat….but we will be thoughtful. And we will get a lot of pleasure out of the fact that we have done a lot of living….and we will cherish all those adventures & memories….while we are pursuing New things, and meeting New people along the way in ways that we Can!
Remember….We Are the Lucky Ones!

I had such fun! I’ve just finished up SHOWTIME! for Spring & Summer 2017. It was so much fun to see so many friends….some that I see regularly, and some that I hardly ever see! I just love my job! 🙂
But the most surprising thing was how many people told me ….”I’m trying to add navy to my closet”! Remember?? You might remember … That was my advice in the last newsletter that I wrote! It was cute the first time, and in fact almost went over my head! Yet by the time I transferred the clothes to the next person I had heard the same thing from soooooo many people! How fun is that!?
Do you have a problem/dilemma that you can’t solve in your closet? Let me know! And I will try to shed some light on a way to tackle that problem! I guess that my biggest problem is making sure that there is Nothing in my closet that I can’t wear … right now! Everything should be fixed, clean, fit!, and make me feel good when I put it on!
They say, Life is Not a Dress Rehearsal! I don’t want to waste my time with clothes that don’t work for me anymore! They just aren’t good enough. The things in my closet have to take me to the places that I go to. If they don’t make me feel good when I put them on, then I figure that I just don’t need them any more…they just aren’t good enough! It’s too hard to Fall in Love with Your Life ….when your pants don’t fit!
So… start being selective! Be Discriminating! If your pants don’t fit, aren’t comfortable…don’t make you feel good….separate from them right then and there. Keep a shopping bag in the bottom of your closet. If you can’t wait to get out of those pants, put them right into that bag when you take them off…and share them with a charity that will make sure they get connected to someone that can really Use Them!
You will be SO GLAD that you did!

Are you anxiously awaiting Spring 2017…. well, I think that’s a great plan!
I think a really good way to freshen up your look for this time of year is to add some Navy to your basic looks. Move away from the usual Black…just a bit….to Navy. When you connect the garments you already have in your closet to Navy, instead of Black, you will get a whole new look and feel to your regular go to clothes! White, Winter White and Ivory can be new neutrals with your Navy and/or Black things as well.
This is a really good time to add a little bit of pattern to your wardrobe also. Something that can blend with Black and Navy is a great choice! You don’t have to have a lot….but choose a big bold print to update your closet! It’s current and on trend, and when it is blended with Black/Navy I bet you will be able to embrace it wholeheartedly! And think of the additional looks you will have!
If you just can’t embrace a lot of pattern, try a new, bold Color! This season some beautiful and New colors are Lollipop Red and Sugar Coral. Both are pretty and bold and will definitely put a bounce in your step! Both, or either, work with Black, and with Navy also! Choose a pretty pattern in a blouse? A scarf? A dress?! And remember….reptile/animal print is still a perfect update to your new look!
This is also a good time to add some new accessories….or dig deep to find the things you already have…and love! If you find some things you haven’t worn in a while, and you don’t love….separate from them!! Don’t hang on to things you don’t love! Life is too short to wear clothes, jewelry, accessories that you don’t like! Everything will be better if you add some new things to update your look for Spring 2017!
Think about it … I’m certain you will be glad you did!

Come See Me! And what’s New!
It’s Time to Spring forward into Spring 2017!
The first thing to do is to commit to Moving Forward! Commit to Ditch the Black Knit pants! They are stretched out and tired and no doubt they have had a lot of wear and tear in the last 6 months or so! A really good way to do that is to substitute jeans for those black leggings. The jeans, they can be denim….but they can also be a bright colored jeans style trouser, or a patterned pant.
Denim is huge this season!
If you haven’t worn it for awhile, you might like to try it again. You will be surprised how quickly you will get a fresh new outlook on an everyday look. I used to use this all the time…. Some of you might even remember it. Lighten Up Your Bottom!! Lighten it up with khaki pants, a lighter neutral….or a great Lollipop Red pair of jeans…Python print trim bottoms! It’s really hard to have a bad day wearing Red Jeans! 🙂
Or, instead of mindlessly heading to the hooks on the bathroom door for those tired, old, leggings….why not try a skirt/dress for a change!? I think you will find it’s a great way to Get Up. Dress Up. and Show Up! As the clocks are Springing Forward so are our clothes! The days will start to get longer…hopefully a little brighter….and maybe we can start to think about wearing a Pretty Color! A new color, a new patterned bottom maybe? Just think about the possibilities!
If you aren’t ready to buy Spring just yet, start by mixing up your daily wardrobe with something in your closet, that you haven’t worn in a while….maybe, you can’t even remember the last time you wore it!? Try it! You will know right away whether or not it’s a keeper. You will love it….or not….and surely by the end of the day you will have some new favorites in the closet that you can GoTo instead of those tired old leggings!
Give it a try! I think you will be glad that you did!

And watch the expression on her face change! Try it! You will be surprised, I think.
Because it is doubtful that she thinks of herself as beautiful! I saw something on Facebook the other day…two things in fact. The first was a collection of women from all over the world. There were examples of women caught up in the throws of what life has to offer…we all have them, days like that. When it seems like the world is going to Get You after all. And, right about then a woman walked by and said…You Are So Beautiful (and she said it like she meant it! And I’m sure that she did)! Immediately the woman’s facial expression changed, dramatically….in fact her whole body language changed….dramatically! We need to do that for each other. I’m going to try it!
The next one was a couple of young women, maybe 20ish? They were sitting and chatting with each other. I guess the assignment was to tell each other, what you feel your own personal body flaws are. I got the impression that the girls were not life long friends….and maybe they were meeting for the first time. Each went on with descriptives of what they saw as their own body flaws. In fact, it was so difficult for them that they were moved to tears….as was I. You see these lovely, young women Were So Hard On Themselves!! They were lovely, young women! It seemed to me that they had no flaws…what were they going to talk about!?! OMG!! Each of them had a list…a long list….of what they perceived of as problems/issues of their own physique. I was amazed!
So, I ask myself, why do we do this…to ourselves!!?!!
Recently I was talking with a friend and she was asking me to identify some people in a big group photo. Nancy said, look at Phyllis!! Isn’t she so beautiful!?! Well, yes I said, she is. OMG! Nancy said, I just LOVE her looks! Her hair is so beautiful! She has those beautiful dimples, she has matured into the most FABULOUS WOMAN! I just love her mannerisms and her clever vocabulary! Now, I happened to know both of these women…well, and for a long time. And I know that Phyllis does not see herself like that. And it made me think that it is such a shame! How do you think her life might have changed…or not?….if she wasn’t so hard on herself for what she sees as terrible flaws!
So, think about this. Next time YOU look in the mirror, think to yourself ….what do you suppose others would say about me first? Say…3 things…..I’ll bet you that those 3 things will not be the first 3 things that you would say. Try it with a friend some time. See what you 2 come up with….and then let me know! I expect you will be surprised!
Please comment & share your thoughts about the beauty of women!!
Oh No! I have nothing to wear!
Now, those of you that know me well….know that couldn’t be true! What, You Say?!?
I guess it is more about the fact that I am so tired of wearing the same, old thing! (I could Scream!!) I get up, go to my closet … I can’t decide what to wear….so I choose the same, old thing I wore yesterday…and maybe even the day before that!! What am I thinking??? Whatever ever happened to Get Up. Dress Up. & Show Up….And the Rest Will Be History!? (My mantra?!?) The last time this happened I made a promise to myself….I’m going shopping in my closet! Today! No more wearing the same thing every day, just because it is easier!
So, I did it! I got up and noticed, immediately, that it was a bright & sunny day, a rare occurrence in early February in Wisconsin! I went into my closet and chose something that was right there and I haven’t really worn it since Christmas. Today is the day! I chose the beautiful red, silk blouse, and favorite necklace….so then I decided it was alright to wear my favorite black pants! Some red lipstick…and I was out the door! A few years ago I started a Lunch Bunch group with 2 other ladies named Barbara. Oddly enough we even have last names that begin with D, so we call ourselves BD3…BD Cubed! And just by coincidence, that day was Go Red for Women Day! And I had on my Red Silk Blouse! As it turned out, it was so much fun! Sometimes we have 4 or 5 ladies show up, and this day we had about 12! It was wonderful!
So, here is the learning….I could so easily have stayed in my “same old” rut, but I took my own advice…to GU.DU.&SU. (get it?)…and I am So Glad That I Did! Everything was better. It sounds crazy, I know….but it works. I dare you…Try It….and see for yourself!
So, now that I have had a few days of dressing up….well, maybe not Up, but at least better….I am even getting myself into some of my new Spring 2017 things. On purpose, when I was shopping last with the current Doncaster Collection I chose things that are transitional, that I can wear early in the season when I am Really feeling the need to have some NEW looks. So, now….it is time to Wear Them! Remember, Wear them in good health…and wear them often! That is how we become comfortable in our newer things and embrace all the good things that will come our way because we are well dressed!
So, try it for yourself. Accept the challenge! You will be so glad that you did!!
If you need some inspiration go to Doncaster.com and check it out!? I’m confident you will find some things to perk up your closet! And, you will be glad that you did!

One of the really good things about January is that it’s a great time to go to the movies.
There is a great movie out there right now, in fact it just opened, Hidden Figures. It is a story based on fact. It takes place in the South in the 60’s and it is the story of how 3 women, 3 black women, changed the course of history in the space race in the 1960’s. You see these women were mathematical geniuses…for real! They knew each other personally, they grew up in the same era so they were all familiar with what and where women were expected or allowed to do, and were all aware of the race relations and the mores of the time. But, in spite of all the difficult obstacles each one found her way to thrive…not just survive!
I loved the women! They were smart and they were kind. They were patient, with each other and with their circumstances. They were, each of them, always well dressed. It was very obvious that they respected themselves enough to make the effort to be well dressed as a regular habit. It was obvious from their appearance that they respected themselves and therefore earned the respect of others around them. Each woman had a different shape, like we all do, but each looked great in her wardrobe! I loved the clothes in this movie! Each one of the ladies did everything from fixing car engines (from underneath the car!), to running across the NASA campus to find a “colored Ladies Room” to preparing dinner and saying prayers with the kids. They were always, very well dressed! Even so, it took a lot of patience in order to persevere! Each was polite and well spoken, even in the most stressful circumstances. They each had plenty of obstacles….they were women…..they were brilliant mathematicians…and they were black, in the South, in the 1960’s. And they managed to persevere with strength and dignity and essentially save the US Space program. It is so ironic that the ladies were so instrumental in making John Glenn’s orbit around the earth….and the movie is released so close to the time of his death. Hmmmm…..Another amazing detail? All three of these ladies, in their 90’s now, are still alive. It’s just an amazing story! I hope you can find the time to go and see it for yourself. I think it will get you thinking too.
So, the moral of the story….you have heard me say it before….
Get Up. Dress Up. & Show Up….and the rest will be history!
Use this time to clean out your closets… Think Out with the old!! In with the New!! This is a great time of year to pare down to the favorite “old favorites” so that when you are so inclined you will embrace adding some pretty New Looks to your wardrobe! I am sure I am not the only one that is happy to say goodbye to 2016…and Hello to 2017!
2017! The Best is yet to Come!
The sky is blue…it’s cold…but oh well! After all, we live in Wisconsin!
This is a great time to go thru your closet and find some things that you haven’t worn in a while, get them out and wear them! If you don’t love how they Feel, that means it is OK to part with them and move on. Take an inventory of your closet! Do you like what you see? Do the black pants fit? The way you want them to? If not, take them and put them in a bag for Goodwill…or a Woman’s Shelter near you… right away! Don’t spend a lot of time talking yourself into why you should them this year! If your sweaters are worn and piling, part with them! Add some pretty colors to your collection. It will perk up your day….and those around you! Take stock every week or so….keep the give away bag in the corner of the closet until it is full. And then find another bag that does have room for some more things. Be relentless!! Ruthless, even!
Spring is the best time for a lot of us to buy knits. Why, you ask? Because of the fabrication. Generally there is not much wool in the knit during this season. I have a lot of clients that can’t wear wool…too many allergies, and too itchy to wear on dry, flaky skin. Think about replenishing now! Besides, the colors are generally are so pretty! That alone will put a bounce in your step…even on the coldest day!
If 2017 is going to be the Best One Yet….Let’s be sure to dress for it! Anticipate success when you Dress like you know what you are doing! And be prepared to work your very own magic! Be prepared to THRIVE! Because there is every reason to believe that you will!
Be sure to save some time to come by and see me and the Doncaster Spring 2017 Collection!

2017! The Best One Yet!!
I think sometimes we get in our own way! Why do we do that…?
Think of it this way….if you agree to do something new…agree to give it your BEST shot! What do you have to do to make people believe that you will be successful at this new venture. And then think….what Else can you do?? To make it Better!?! Give it your best shot…and then some! Why? Because that is how you will know that it is the right thing for you, or not. If you don’t give it your best, from the “Get-Go”, then you really will not know if it was really the right thing for you or not? You might limp along, doing your thing….but if you don’t give it your ALL you will never know what the real ending could be! Maybe you will have lack luster success, which would be fine, under certain circumstances. But how would you feel if you found out a year later…or 2 maybe….that if you had done one more thing you might have been GREAT!
Success breeds success….I didn’t make that up! But, the opposite is true also….lackluster performance brings lackluster results. Lackluster is fine….in fact, lackluster is great for some people! But what if you could have done one more thing, and have success from the outset? Then it would follow that you would have wild success!! After all….Success Breeds Success, right!? Give it your best shot! From the beginning! So the success can multiply!! That way if something else presents itself to you, you can have a better shot at making smart decisions about which direction to take at the next fork in the road.
When I started my business, I was invited to an event to learn about something new….Designer Fashion Beginning at size 12. I didn’t know the people that invited me, I didn’t know who else was going, and I wasn’t looking for a job! But I was curious to see what it was all about….so I said YES! I am proud to say that it has turned out to be a Great Opportunity for me! I have met wonderful women….and men! I have been places and done things I never thought of doing. And it has all been a result of saying YEP…I’ll try it! And I did! I jumped in both feet first and gave it my best effort! I have the luxury of being proud of what I have done, because I believe that I have done the best I can….and the results have been GREAT! Of course, some seasons are better than others….but ultimately I can live with the results because I believe that I did the best I could.
It is easier to be the best you can be if you dress like you mean it. Don’t be afraid to be the best dressed woman in the room. The other people in the room will be so mad at themselves for wearing the same old same old black bottoms! Just trust me….and believe it! Because it is true! This is the perfect time to try it out…..it’s the HOLIDAYS. Wear something different…something new….something that you like….and that you haven’t worn in a bit. It’s the perfect opportunity to shine! If someone approaches you and says…what are you wearing??!! And why are you wearing it?? You can tell them that I told you to!
Dress Well. It will help you to FEEL Better! And THRIVE!!!!!!
