Generally, I recommend shopping early in the season….and paying full price for your new clothes! I always advocate for shopping for a whole look, not just a 1 piece of a look, and then wearing that look hard!! Wearing it over and over and over again…all season long! So that when the next season comes along you will be ready for some new things. I really think that this is the way to get the most out of your money….to have your clothes work for you!! Makes perfect sense doesn’t it?!?
Well, lately to everyone’s surprise I have been Sale Shopping! As it turns out, I have learned a lot! I saw some things on line that were available for 75% off….and even more!! Because they were marked down so far (75%) I decided to try a few things…denim that is! I haven’t worn denim in YEARS! I bet I haven’t bought any denim since I’ve been married!! It’s been a really, really long time ago!! And, guess what….I LOVE them! My new jeans fit perfectly, they are comfortable to wear (over and over again!)….and I am so glad that I have them in my closet!
In fact, because I love them so much I am actually considering buying another pair!! I think they are marked down even more! So, why not!?! Sale Shopping is the perfect way to add to that beautiful outfit you bought early in the season! That fabulous pair of black pants that have become must have pieces in your closet. This is the perfect opportunity to replenish those pants into your wardrobe….nobody will know if they are Sale pants….or not! What they will notice, is that you look Great!
Remember….Wear Them in Good Health, and Wear Them Often!
I decided to go ahead and try something so new, and out of my box, so to speak, because they were on Sale. I’m not sure I would have done that if they were regular price, early in the season. I tried what is a new color for me….just because….why not!
And, just one more thing! when we shop at the end of the season, and indulge in a second pair of favorite pants….and when we shop locally, we really support our local merchants and their business. It helps her to move forward and shop and plan for the next season, insuring that our favorite business will continue to be there for us to frequent!! And that is a good thing all the way around.
So, as soon as the Polar Vortex passes you by….get out there…..and Go Shopping!!! I predict that you will be glad you did!
Please comment and share your thoughts about sale shopping!! Where are your favorite sales…?!

It has taken me a little while to get my arms around that! I am struck by the fact that we are living in the FUTURE!! Or almost anyway!! I think that 2020 is definitely the future….and it is practically here! Yikes!
So, I’m a little tardy with my New Years ideas. I heard a really good tip just the other day. My good friend Meg Daly ( https://mojomeg.com ) was talking about how to move forward into the New Year and rise to the occasion of setting up 2019 as a good year….maybe the best one yet!?! She suggested that we think about 2018, and the things we did, and the places that we went to, and make note of them so that we can make sure to continue to be involved in those things that bring us happiness and joy during 2019. Maybe your connection is with the cause itself, maybe it is with the people you know there, but let’s try hard to continue doing those things that, for whatever reason, make us feel good. When we feel good life is much better!
I want to add to that suggestion….that while you are doing that exercise of reviewing your 2018 calendar, think about what you WORE to those places for those variety of events. Think about this…sometimes the things we do, and really enjoy doing, are often about the experience that we share with others and about how the experience makes us feel. And what is more fun than getting up and putting on clothes that we like…just because they put a bounce in your step!?!
Get Up. Dress Up. and Show Up….And the Rest Will be History!
After all, when we get up and get dressed, in our favorites….there is a very good chance that it will be a very good day! You don’t have to be dressed up exactly, just dressed in your favorite looks….for whatever it is you are doing today. Try hard to make it a habit! I think that might be my best tip yet!?
So, here’s to 2019! Here’s hoping that it will be the best one yet….for all of us!! 🙂
Try it! Make it a point to try something new to you….each day!
Today was the day for me! I had some errands to do at the Mall. It’s about a 1/2 hour away from me, so I try to plan my visits out there carefully. Besides …. I Hate going to the Mall. But, I decided to say Yes to the adventure and just do it! And, I’m so glad that I did!
The first thing I did was to return some shoes to Nordstrom. I pulled up to the area and I noticed there was a sign right in front of me that said I could text the store and someone would come out to my car to pick up my returns. I had never done that before. But, I thought…I’m going to try this. And it was that good! I saved some steps….and some energy…..and it was EASY! So I was starting to feel really good!
So, then I was feeling very brave….and decided to drive around to the other end of the Mall…and because I was in a different place than usual, I took a different route. I think it was because of that that I found the perfect parking spot for the things I wanted to do. Yeah! I am never that lucky! 🙂 As I entered the Mall, in a different location than usual, I walked right by Panera….I love cheesy bread at Panera! So I went to do my errands…..and as I was leaving…..I decided to stop and get some cheesy bread to take home! Yeah!!
By now I was feeling good and very brave!! So when I passed by Five Guys…by now it was getting to be lunchtime….I decided to stop by and have a burger and fries. Five Guys came to Milwaukee YEARS ago….and I haven’t been there since it first opened….so I decided to take the plunge and try it again. Guess What?!? I liked it! Especially the fries!! When I finished eating lunch I went to one more place….Talbots. It just so happened that they were have a great sale….I think almost everything I bought was on sale….about 90% off!! Since Doncaster died I was in serious need of some new clothes….and they were exactly the right price!! How could I resist?!?
It was a great day! I’m so glad I went….and so glad that I did some things in a new (to me!) way! It made me feel really good! Empowered even! I got my errands done in a timely fashion….I bought some foods that Harry and I love but hardly ever actually eat….and I even got some new clothes to perk up my closet. All in all it was a great day!
When was the last time you tried something new?? Can you even remember when it was? Try it! When the occasion presents itself think about my day…..think about how great I felt at the end of the day….how empowered I felt just because I did a few “usual” things a little differently than I usually do them.
Think of it this way…..Today is a Good Day for a Good Day!

I always tell my friends….we live in Wisconsin! In the Winter we go away as much as we can…..and in the summer we have Company! Yeah!
Recently we have had some Company! We love that! I told Harry that as much as I love that he volunteers to go to the store, this time I am going to go to the grocery store. Because, after all we are having Company! These days everyone eats different things! We need to get an assortment for the kids (the young parents), the babies, the grownups……It’s just not as easy as it sounds! I love my husband to pieces, but he Never veers from the list! Never! He simply couldn’t even think of shopping for this bunch!
So, I headed out for my shopping adventure!! Armed and Dangerous as they say! And I had a blast! I got some flowers, some cookies…..some of this and some of that! A couple of chicken salads, because everyone eats different things these days! Some Popsicles and Ice Cream bars, some chips!! Oh my Gosh! The grocery cart was FULL of good stuff that we haven’t had around the house in ages!
Then I got to the check out. I struggled to get the things on the counter faster than the check out lady could check them off! But, I persevered and I did it! Then….OMG!!… I got the total!! Oh Boy!!! It was $150!! I told the lady, you know my husband usually does the grocery shopping, especially lately, because I have been sick. When he comes up here he never spends more than $40!!! He comes all the time!! He always gets the same things…..and only the things on the list!! He is going to KILL me!! 🙂 It was just too much! She thought I was hilarious! So I took everything to the car and got it all loaded into the trunk…finally. I got in the car, and thought I would catch my breath and check on my messages to find out where they were, the company that is….how far away…..when they might arrive?? Should I be rushing home?? Or not?? You know….that sort of thing.
And there was a message for me! They got a late start…..so they stopped in Minoqua for coffee and snacks…..and then they were planning on stopping in Stevens Point at lunchtime….so they would see us about 3:00-3:30pm. Can you believe it??!!?? AFTER LUNCH!! It was too funny! I laughed all the way home, because I just knew I was going to be in soooo much trouble!!
But, it was really too funny!! Oh well, it’s Summer Vacation! We love our family and friends and cousins…..all our different kinds of Company! And we love to see them any time they can get here….whether it’s meal time or not!

I think by now most of you know that I’ve been sick for a while now!!! UGH!!! As soon as I think I’m getting better something else happens….darn it! But, I think slowly, I am getting better!
I got my nails done yesterday….for the first time in 6 weeks! Oh dear…! And I have been reluctant to go and do it for a lot of reasons….including I’m not going anywhere, I’m not seeing anyone, I don’t feel good, they are really fine “au naturelle”….so why not just save the money? But, somehow, I was convinced that beautiful fingers would make me feel better. So I said OK…we’ll see. And you know what? New nails = a new me! It worked! I felt better immediately! So this morning I got up and dressed up in last years favorites…including PINK! A lot of pattern and a lot of Pink! And I am feeling better.
I am so saddened by the sudden death of Kate Spade. I am so sorry to hear of her struggles. I am a big fan of hers…..and have been for years! She was a young woman with a great idea, to design & create a purse that actually carried all the things women need to have at hand on a regular basis. She was able to pursue and develop her brand and she created an empire all her own. Such a wonderful role model for all of our young people today. Her vision, it turned out was more than purses….it turned out to be a brand that included, fashion, home goods, shoes…she left her mark on all facets of our life today. Life is hard….for everybody….on a lot of days. Everybody knows that. But I believe that for some people, some times, it is just too hard. And for those people we just need to give them peace and grace. We need to trust that when they do the unthinkable they believe they are doing the right thing. Ultimately, it’s up to them…It’s not up to us.
I guess it just goes to show that Everyone Has Something……even, maybe especially, those women that appear to have it all.
Hence, we will vow to Get Up. Dress Up. and Show Up. Why? because we can….we will get a manicure/pedicure…and we will feel better… and we will become role models and mentors to the young women that are coming up behind us…one step at a time, one day at a time.
And don’t forget…. Lipstick!!!
