One More Thing!

This was Election week here in Milwaukee. This is the election for local positions and judgeships, grass roots kind of topics…neighborhood issues.

I challenge the fans of BBDStyle to Get Up. Dress Up. & Show Up for Election Day….next time you have an election in your neck of the woods! Show up to vote at your polling place. Is it old and tired? Are the chairs that the Election Judges have to sit on ALL DAY rusty and torn and dilapidated? Is the Election held in a old schoolhouse that hasn’t been visited in years and years??

Are the Judges themselves old and gray and tired? Is it hard for them to process people thru the line in a timely fashion….not because they are lazy, but because they can’t?! They can’t process what to do next quickly enough? Are we asking people to come out and vote for jobs nobody knows anything about? Or for people running unopposed….not in one category on the ballot, but for Most categories on the ballot?

It’s a disgrace! My polling place is a travesty. People all over the world envy our status as a free society….and here we have contest after contest where nobody Votes! In one contest here in town, this week, a write in candidate won her race. That is wonderful news…in fact she was my candidate….but she won with 79 votes….the opponent got 60….in the whole district! That is terrible!

When I walked into the polling place the other day I was overwhelmed with Tired…Old….Dreary…and OBSOLETE! Why would any smart, busy, successful young person ever make the time in her busy day to go there….for any reason ….. including to vote for old people who are running unopposed to jobs that no one wants.

It seems a little bit CRAZY doesn’t it!

Remember….If you stand for Nothing….What will you Fall for?

It’s Time!

It’s Time!  To Embrace Spring with what you wear! Maybe it will be a beautiful creamy cashmere sweater set? Or a Lipstick Leather jacket?

It’s time to shed the tired, old clothes that you have been wearing again and again…..day in and day out for months now! The blacks are getting faded…and are starting to look dingy and Grey! Change your look…on purpose. When was the last time you wore a suit?? Maybe you have a black or navy suit hanging in your closet that you haven’t worn in a long time? Try it! You might Like It! Or walk on the wild side and wear a color…head to toe! It can be a pastel or a bright. It doesn’t matter, it will put a bounce in your step! I know it will!

Make it a Great Day! Dress for a Great Day! And Voila!

Go to your closet and find something you love, but you can’t remember the last time you wore it! Embrace it! Add something NEW. A bracelet? A necklace?New earrings maybe?? Even a scarf that is tucked away in a drawer…remember sometimes, for some people, it’s all about baby steps to something new…especially a new Look! If it makes you feel good…WEAR IT!

Or, think of it this way…find something in a pretty COLOR….it can be a PASTEL or a pretty BOLD color! It’s Time! It can even be a pretty Print! It’s even better if it is a pretty Print sporting a black background. Try something New…To You! You will be glad you did!

And, For Pete’s Sake….don’t forget to perk up your lipstick! Change your red lipstick to Crimson, Bright Raspberry or Tangerine! And the blush….you might want to lighten that up a bit too.

Maybe it’s too early for white pants and sleeveless tops….but it isn’t too early for a Change! Embrace It!

Be the Best Woman You Can Be!!!

Our Young People!

If you stand for nothing…what will you fall for?

Alexander Hamilton

I am so taken with our young people today! I am so impressed at how well they are behaving! They are organizing themselves in such a way that they might actually be able to provoke some changes in our world today! Maybe?

I was an emotional wreck the morning of the School Walk Out! And how many schools were able to actually do it! The kids were responsible enough to come up with a plan that would likely get approved by the adults….to walk out in solidarity for the Parkland victims….coming up with a 17 minute Walk Out.

I was out to lunch that day and found myself sitting with a group of women that didn’t know each other well. What was surprising to me was that the Mom’s were lamenting that THEY wanted to walk out at the school with their children. And their children said No Mom!! This is OUR Walk Out!

I am not throwing’ away my shot! Alexander Hamilton

It reminded me of a Junior League story. The story goes something like this. They say that the Junior League of Orange County, CA did a survey on the 1960’s of the kinds of problems the school age children had at that time.  What kinds of things got the boys sent to the Principal’s Office? What kinds of things did the teachers find most difficult about the school day. The feeling was that if they could identify some of those things they might be able to brainstorm some solutions. It turned out that the most challenging problems they all faced were things like….the kid would stick a wad of chewed gum under the rim of his desk…..the boys would tease the girls….the lunchroom was a mess after the lunch break….. homework wasn’t turned in on time because “the dog ate my homework”….and one of the boys might push down a girl on the playground when playing Red Rover, Red Rover.

Today our young people struggle with things like students getting shot and sometimes Killed AT SCHOOL….sometimes, lunch at school, is the only meal a child might get, and often she has to eat alone….they oftentimes don’t know where they will sleep at night….whether their parent will be there when they get home….who will look after them…..and who will look after their siblings….they are experiencing out of control suicide statistics ….. drug addictions for themselves and for their parents and siblings. The lives of our school children today are vastly different than the lives of the students not so long ago.

So, let’s hear it for the kids! Let’s show them some alternative life styles that maybe they can grow up and learn to embrace. Let’s read to them….let’s mentor them in ways that we can….and let’s encourage them to stand up for the things that are important to them. I think they deserve it!

You Go Kids! Good luck with the March 24 Walk!

Happy New Year!

Well, we made it! We survived 2017,

and ushered in 2018!

So now it is time to Spring Forward!!!

But, here is the thing…I think 2018 is so close to 2020….that I actually think of it as “practically 2020”. When I think of today as “practically 2020” I think….OMG!….We are living in the future!! For real!! How did that happen so fast?!?

So I have decided that now that we are practically living in the future we have to start thinking….”I’m Moving Forward”. No more It’s Fine. It Will Do. I Don’t Need It. The old one is good enough….they used to last forever….so they should still last forever!! Well, maybe they did …back in the day. But, they don’t now! (Whatever it is!) So it is up to all of us to jump on board this train and decide to move forward with the times and do the best we can to modify how we do things today with how we did them in 1970!! Why?? Because there is almost NO CHANCE that when 2020 comes….for real….we will be doing things just like we did in 1970!

That begins with how we dress. Because how we dress will determine how we live our lives! If we dress like we mean it…or if we dress like we respect ourselves, and our times…there is every chance people around us will treat us like women who know what we are doing. And ultimately, I think, that is what we all want. Isn’t it!?

Make some time to come and see me and what’s new for Doncaster Spring 2018! We will find you something crisp, fresh and NEW to guide you confidently in to the future! I know we will!  You will be so glad you came!

It’s SHOWTIME! in Milwaukee!

What I Wear Where!?

What I Wear Where!

Recently we went to dinner with some friends that I am crazy about. The biggest problem we have is that we don’t see enough of each other! It seems like there is never enough time! I was sitting on the couch chatting with the hostess when all of a sudden, all I could think of was ‘Oh No!!’ I am wearing the same thing I wore last time we were here!! Exactly the same thing!

You see just the week before, I was meeting with a New Client, Sandra. She was new to me….and to Doncaster. She bought a dress and as she was trying it on we were talking ‘Fashionista Speak’…you know what that is right?!

Where she will wear her new dress, what shoes she will wear with it, where she is going wearing her new dress….etc. Sandra asked me/told me that she keeps a note of what she wears to which event and she asked me if I did that. I assured her that I work hard to pay close attention to what I wear, but I haven’t actually gotten around to making notes. So imagine my surprise, when I found myself in that very same situation….within the week!!! ‘Oh No!’

I guess I will have to start making notes for myself! Clearly the old habit of ‘thinking about it’ isn’t working so well for me anymore. So I reached out to her again…so, Sandra, how do you do that?! Where and how do you keep your Fashion Diary, I asked? It has to be simple. It has to be accurate. And it has to be easy to see and, therefore, to actually use! I found an old diary sort of thing I have never used….that is pretty (very important) and small-ish, also important….and I have found a perfect spot front and center in my closet! I got it all set this weekend, and already I feel so well organized!

I have decided to call it ‘What I Wear Where’! Cute isn’t it!?! Actually it is perfect timing! For the next few weeks I am happy to say that I have places to go and things to do! Everything should be much easier for me if I can quickly look up what I wore there last time I went there!

Try it. Maybe this little tip will help you to navigate your closet more effectively. We want to wear more of the clothes we already have, so that when the New Collection (Doncaster Spring 2018) becomes available we will be ready for some pretty, new, things!!
