The Holidays….that is! They are here!
Thanksgiving has come and gone, we are finishing up the leftovers as we speak, and it is time to think about the holiday season! It is time to start thinking about where you are going, what are you doing, and..last but not least….what are you going to wear!?
This is the time of year to try something New! This year it is all about Red! A beautiful red dress?? Or blouse? Or scarf? And for pete’s sake don’t forget about the Red lips! If you don’t ordinarily go for Red lips, this is a good time to try it! The idea, this time of year, is to Sparkle and Shine, from the inside out! In order to do that we have to be comfortable & confident in the looks we choose. That is why I always advocate to “Wear it in Good Health…and Wear it Often!” When we wear things Often we begin to grow more confident with those New Looks because we are more comfortable wearing them.
A really good way to ease into the Holidays, and something New, is to pair a favorite old friend (your favorite black trousers, let’s say). Think about pairing those pants with a beautiful new Red Blouse!? Or a scarlet sweater maybe? Or, maybe you will decide to try a New Red Lipstick this year…make it a point to wear it with a favorite look you love the first time you give it a try. It will give you the courage to try something else! Or maybe you will decide to wear that statement necklace you bought but you haven’t worn often enough?! Try it! Wear it with your favorite outfit! It might feel Daring at first, but soon it will get easier to be brave enough to try something new!
I bet, as you become more accustomed to trying something new, it will get easier! It will spill over into other parts of your life as well. Suddenly, something that was too scary awhile ago, will seem like more of a possibility.
Maybe, just maybe, I could say Yes to that?
Think about it! ‘Til next time!
I am a Lucky Woman!
It’s November…all ready! It’s time for me to turn my attention to turkey, stuffing, apple pie and gravy! Polish the silver, decorate the tables….and prepare for the company! I know what I’m going to wear…do you?
I am thankful for a wonderful family, husband, children that we love, siblings that we don’t see enough of, a host of in-laws…and even the outlaws! And a thriving Doncaster business that keeps me out of trouble…at least most of the time! I am grateful for the friends and clients that appreciate the product that I represent and the experience that I bring to my business.
As you are sorting out your closet and thinking about where you are going and what you are going to wear think about this…show your world that you respect yourself by dressing well. Your accessories?? The best accessory? Your smile!! It’s even better with RED LIPS! 🙂

We have enjoyed a wonderful whirlwind of travel lately!
It seems that I just cannot stop writing about our recent experiences….traveling! One thing remains a constant….the average man on the street is Very Badly Dressed! You really don’t want to be that person! We don’t get a second chance to make a first impression, don’t we want to be sure it’s good?
I think the best choice for traveling is a suitcase full of BLACK! It goes everywhere, mostly the looks go with each other, and you don’t have many decisions to make while hurrying to get an early start in the morning! Traveling is hard work. It takes a lot of energy! You get a lot of information, all at once, you have to keep your wits about you….all day long…no matter the circumstances! It’s best if you don’t have to spend a lot of effort and energy on your wardrobe.
Make your notes before you leave! Where you will be going. Who you will be going with. Plan accordingly! You will be so glad that you did! Make sure you have a few nice things that you LIKE to wear! At the end of the day, it will feel really good to have something you love to put on for dinner, whether it is with new friends, or old….Because, remember….one is silver and the other gold!
Every time I have a new collection the client walks in and says, I don’t know what I want, but I do know what I don’t want! No more Black!
Ok, Ok, I say!
So … what does she buy, Black! Of course! 🙂
While I always advocate for some color, what is true is that 9 days out of 10 we get up and put on something black! Black bottoms, black t-shirt/sweater, a favorite statement necklace and I am good to go! It is a fairly predictable and therefore comfortable look! That’s a perfect description of a well packed suitcase!
Stay tuned! Every chance I will have some more Pearls of Wisdom from the next trip!
We have been traveling a lot this Fall!
We are visiting friends and family. We are going to new places and interesting, exciting cities even NYC on 9/11!! It was really something!
I work with New Yorkers and we have family, that are New Yorkers. You know it always amazes me. Everyone, all over the world was, and continues to be, in awe of the New Yorkers! They survived the worst attack on American soil ever and yet they stay there and stay busy and continue to look out for each other and do things like running Into Burning Buildings to help others survive the trauma and come out alive. And they keep on keeping on! It’s amazing to me. And the skyscrapers and the bridges ~ how did they build those? In the 18th century!? And the traffic!! How is it that any business is conducted at all? With everyone sitting in the middle of the street absolutely standing still stopped!
Then we went almost directly to Tucson with my Doncaster Presidents Circle Colleagues to the desert in August! I thought it was crazy!! But, you know what? I was wrong! It was a wonderful experience. The opposite of NYC, really, quiet & calm and introspective. My husband went zip lining!! It’s just like Sky Diving! OMG!!! While I enjoyed getting to know some other Doncaster ladies. It was so special! We even got a sneak peek at Spring 2016! It’s beautiful!
We finished that trip with a visit to Chicago to see some very close family friends that we don’t see enough of who were in town from California! Our good friend was in town as the Director of a new performance of The Rainmaker at the American Blues Theatre. It was wonderful! Just Wonderful! I was laughing, teary-eyed, and out right weeping by the end of the show. It was a special treat that The Rainmaker was nominated for a Jefferson Award!! How great is that!?
So how does all this relate to a Fashionista?? OMG!! Ladies, we have to try harder to be respectful, not only of others, but especially of ourselves … while we are out and about! Generally speaking, the general public is walking around out there looking Horrible! When we got home, I was telling my friends that there were men on the airplane dressed like they were going to go cut the grass! And their women, dressed like they were going to yoga class which of course we were not!! Please lets make a pledge to ourselves that we will at the least look in the mirror before we walk out the door in the morning wherever we are going! Let’s not dress for the gym, if we are going to work, going to the store, going to lunch with a friend, going to our children school going just about everywhere besides the gym!
Dress like you mean it! Wear Doncaster! It’s that easy!
Do you have some favorite accessories? I hope the answer is Yes!
Sometimes, your accessories are the things that finish off your Power Suit. Sometimes your accessories ARE your power look! Think about it! Reply to us and tell us all about your favorites….and why or what, made them your favorites? When I was the absolutely brand new girl at Doncaster I was lucky enough to be #1 in the country! The woman that I reported to at the time awarded me with a sterling silver star…including a charm with my initials and the date. That is MY secret Power piece. When I am going somewhere important, meeting new people, doing something that is new to me, I make it a point to wear that charm. That is my reminder that I CAN do it! Think….I think I can, I think I can, I think I can. It’s my secret boost…nobody but me knows about my secret weapon, but when I am up there in a crowd, and I need it, it is my secret weapon…and it is there for me!
Next time you find yourself in an awkward situation ask the woman you are talking with to tell you the story about her ring, her necklace, her watch…you get the picture! There is every chance there is a great story that goes along with that favorite accessory of hers. Oddly interesting, each story in its own way, sentimental and powerful. She will have a story somewhat like mine…an anniversary present, a treasure from a Mom (or grandmother) long gone, a gift from someone important to you. You will learn a lot about your friend….probably a fond story that you will remember for a very long time!
They say….To Exercise is great!
But, I say….to accessorize is even better!
Try wearing one of the special pieces that you have been saving…and see if it doesn’t become your Power Piece! If it doesn’t…try another one until you find the thing that gives you your inner boost!
Sometimes your favorite accessory might be your lipstick or nail color! Try something NEW! This season that will be some shade of Bordeaux. Try it!
And, for some people the new favorite might be a new SHOE!! Walk on the wild side….try an animal print! Especially with a monochromatic look! How beautiful, and simple is THAT!?
Make it a point to try something new a ring/necklace/bracelet, it might be a new color, might be a new shoe … but try it! I bet you will be glad you did!
Do you have a favorite outfit?
That’s YOUR power suit! If you don’t have one, we have to find you one!
I have a NEW suit, that I just got! And IT is my power suit! I love it! I have worn it twice now, and both times I received compliments all day long! That is always a good thing! But, remember, it is new and I have ONLY worn it twice. And already it is my go to look… and I can’t wait to wear it again.
So, what is it that makes your favorite outfit a power suit? I think there are a few pieces to that answer. The most important thing is the feeling that you have when you wear it! Do you feel pulled together and confident? Think of it this way, if you want people to believe you to be credible, you really want to LOOK credible! We don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. So the very first impression has to be a good one to get GREAT results! One of the things that will make you LOVE your look is when you do wear it, do you receive compliments?? Just random compliments. You want your look….that everyday look that only you own, to be your own personal branding. You want people, friends and clients, to believe what you tell them is true. And to do that well, you need to look like a woman that knows what she is talking about!
Your look doesn’t have to be fussy. Quite the opposite, in fact! Your look needs to be consistent. Look nice….not FABULOUS!! It’s hard to be consistently fabulous! But it isn’t too hard to be consistently well dressed. In the 21st century we are BUSY…and we have LONG days. We must have clothes that take us to the places we go…all day long…and we must look as good at 6pm as we did at 6am!
Clean hair, a great hair cut….well manicured nails…and for Pete’s Sake a great new lip color!
Repeat after me … Get Up. Dress Up. & Show Up!
And today will be a good day!
I can’t promise I can make you look thin! But, I can promise I can make you look great!!!!
People tell me that all the time! Alright, alright….I’ll come see you….but can you promise to make me look thin!!?? No, of course not! But….I can promise to introduce you to looks that make you look stylish, modern….and generally, GREAT! I want to introduce you to some new looks, that you can embrace…and in no time at all they will be your go-to POWER LOOKS! How do I know that? I hear it all the time! It isn’t about how old you are….or aren’t! It isn’t about what size you wear. When you look stylish, you will rock your world! And, that is the best feeling there is!
It’s really important that we don’t get stuck wearing the same old, same old all the time. That is the thing that makes us look old and tired. When we wear new looks, we have to push ourselves a little bit. We have to stretch ourselves to try a little bit harder, to look a little bit better….to embrace something a little bit edgier! You want to look like YOU, but better! Stay within your comfort zone, but try something that is NEW….TO YOU! Stay tuned to BBDStyle.com for tips on what’s new and edgy and current! You will be so glad that you did!
For Fall you MUST have some Ruby Red in your closet! Whether it is a whole look, or whether it is a single garment that will punch up the closet for Fall 2015. Swipe your lips with a rich ruby red color….that is the thing that will make everything look new! And that is always a good thing!
Another must have this season is a CAPE! Any color will do, but it is the must have accessory for Fall 2015. Keep your eyes open…you will notice them everywhere! Try it! You might like it! Look at these ladies….look at how great they look. Now picture this….what if they were wearing a cardigan!?! A cardigan that is hip length!!?! We all have at least one in our closet!! Yikes!
A cape is a great way to take those favorite leggings (at least some trim leg pants) all over town, all day long!
Make it a point….Try something new….And then, remember…
Wear it in Good Health, … And Wear it Often!
Check out this wonderful Behind the Scenes video of the Winter 2015 photoshoot!
AND, ooohh … somebody else recently had a photoshoot too ~ stay tuned to find out who! 😉
Have fun getting acquainted with these new looks!
Do you have a job that isn’t so motivating any more?
Maybe you are caught up in a relationship that doesn’t seem to be going any where?
But, you don’t really know how to change things! It’s just too much effort! After all it’s not all that bad! Maybe you have too much angst about all the things that might be affected by your changing things up a bit…even just a bit. Notice below…the looks are the same….white vs. carmine red….but look what an impact the NEW carmine color, including lips and nails makes in the over all look. It’s amazing really! Isn’t it? And the abstract animal print shoe….VOILA! another look altogether! Have fun with your closet! Try some new things!
As we transition into Fall 2015 this is the perfect time to find some of the things in your closet that you haven’t worn enough. Make it a point to use those things that you love….or not!….in a little different way than you have these last few months. Try it! You just might like it!
I have a suggestion. Just change something! Just one thing. Try not to obsess about all the effects that might happen as a result of your changes. Maybe you could just think about changing your lipstick!?
We are coming up on Fall 2015….try a new look, something new to add to your closet? But, remember….you HAVE to wear it! 🙂 Just by trying something new…like this….it will give you the strength to try something else! And, then, something! Get the picture?
Sometimes it’s just too traumatic to consider a big life change! A job change, or boyfriend trouble ….. it’s just too overwhelming to seriously consider. So, think of it this way. By changing something, there is every chance there will be other changes as a result.
And keep on saying it to yourself … Nothing Changes … if Nothing Changes!
1. Talk to strangers!
But remember, if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all!
If you just can’t find a common ground to talk about, compliment her! There is every chance a simple compliment…”I love your shoes!!” OMG!! It’s that easy. It will make her day….and yours!
2. Don’t let yourself Go!
Remember, TODAY IS A GOOD DAY FOR A GOOD DAY!
You decide when you get up in the morning what kind of day it will be! The first decision you make is the biggest decision you will make all day!
What will I wear today? Go out of your way to make sure that the things you have in your closet fit….and when you wear them….you ROCK! When you look good, you feel good. When you feel good you make smart decisions. When you feel good, you are nice to be around, and those people who are around you feel better too! Think about it!
3. Don’t forget your Lipstick!
Everyone….every smile…..looks more beautiful with LIPSTICK! Make it a point to update your go-to color each season!
4. Seek beauty…..look for it around you! Even the strangest places!
The cardinal at the back door….in the early spring! The beautiful batch of bluebells in the back yard! Wow! They are BEAUTIFUL!
5. A beautiful, flirty dress!
Something new….something kind of unexpected. Something that make you smile when you look at yourself! Then, remember, WEAR IT!
6. Dress well to please yourself! Not Him!
When you dress well you indicate to the world around you that you are worth it! That you treat yourself well. That you treat those around you well. That you know what you are talking about. And there is every chance that the people around you will listen to you … and better yet … they will believe that you know what you are talking about!
7. Accessories are Necessities!
Or, TO EXERCISE IS GREAT! BUT TO ACCESSORIZE IS EVEN BETTER!
A beautiful statement necklace and earrings makes a black shirt and pant look STUNNING! Think to yourself…..Wait…..you mean it is this easy to look this great!? And the short answer is YES!!
8. Appreciate your friendships & seek to make more!!!
If you are nice to people, they will be nice back to you. And soon you will have plenty to talk about…and a new friend to boot!! All of us want to have friends! We are the lucky ones if we can surround ourselves with people a little younger than we are….and a little older than we are…..and, even some that are our same age!!
SO REMEMBER…..TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF! DRESS WELL! AND…..
